It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, Odella “Babe” Mahar in her 94th year born in Charlottetown on August 10, 1929. She passed peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, on Saturday, May 28th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Harold Vincent Mahar and the daughter of the late Harry and Agnes Ferguson. Devoted and loving mother of Charlene Nickels(the late George), Farley (Susan), Garth (the late Louise) and Heather Cairns(Joey).
Family was everything to her and she will be sadly missed and her memory cherished by her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Odella is lovely remembered by her brother-in-law Raymond Mahar (Dora) and sister-in-law Marie Mahar and will be greatly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
She is the last in line of her 13 siblings and was predeceased by her sisters Joan, Hilda, Olive, Olga, Henrietta, Thelma, Florence and brothers Elmer, Gerald, Roger, Gordon and Hessel.
Odella enjoyed her family life, and her family was her priority. There was not a thing she would not do when called upon by family and loved to be kept in the loop with what was happening with each and everyone. She was the compass that provided the direction for each to follow. Her home was always the “do drop in” for family coming home to visit and for her children’s neighbourhood friends, it was a gathering point. She loved being surrounded by family. When her children were young, she supplemented the family income by selling Avon and then when her children were at the “right age” she enjoyed her work at the Eaton’s cosmetic counter until retirement.
Her family was quite involved with the harness racing industry and she shared that love of horses as well. It became her hobby and one that she enjoyed and participated in actively. Her passing has caused great sorrow in those she has touched but her memory will live on in the hearts of her cherished loved ones.
The family wish to extend a special thank you to the staff at Whisperwood Villa for their years of care and to the caring emergency Doctors and staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital who kept her comfortable in her final hours.
