The death occurred peacefully at her late residence on Thanksgiving Day Monday, October 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, of E. Anne Smith of Charlottetown, age 88 years. Beloved mother of Stephen (Patti), Nancy (Brad) Smith Robinson, Peter (Debby), and Andy (Barb). Proud Nana of Lindsay (Brian), Matthew (Erin), Allison (Joe), Michael (Nate), Eric, Laura, Amy (Will), Kate (Morgan), Ben (Beth), and Alex (Kelsey) and great-Nana of Stetson, Jaxon, Hayes, Huxley, Sullivan, Clark, Louie, Kip, Sonny, Cal, Harvey, and Estelle. Fondly remembered by her former husband and father of her children, Don Smith, sister-in-law Sandra MacPhail, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and cherished colleagues from RBC Dominion Securities. Predeceased by her parents John and Laura (Scott) MacPhail, brother Scott, sister Barbara (Kenneth) Coles, and sister-in-law Betty MacPhail.
Anne was a force for good in her community serving on numerous boards including the QEH Foundation, the Confederation Centre of the Arts Foundation, the UPEI Board of Governors, Canada Post and Island Tel, and was actively involved with her church serving as both a Trustee and an Elder at Park Royal United Church, and was an active member of the Liberal Party of PEI for many years. She was a dedicated member of Probus and enjoyed a 60-year affinity with the Bridge Club.
She blazed a trail for women in the financial sector including a long and distinguished career with RBC Dominion Securities, earning her credentials as a Designated Certified Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI). Prior to this she served in the Office of the Premier under Alex B. Campbell and the late Joseph “Joe” Ghiz.
She was presented with an honourary doctorate from UPEI, marking a significant milestone in her career and life.
She will be most remembered as a wonderful mother and nana, and as a faithful and loyal friend to all who were blessed to be in her very large circle.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Friday at 1:30 p.m. from Park Royal United Church. The family extends their sincere gratitude for the care and compassion offered by the palliative care team including Bethany Quinn, Tina Perry and granddaughter in law, Kelsey MacQuaid Smith, for their support and guidance, and also to special nurse/caregiver, Alice MacLeod.
