The death occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Friday, February 17, 2023 of Larry James Wilson of Charlottetown, age 71 years.
Larry was born on September 15, 1951 in Winnipeg, M.B., the first born of four children. His parents were George Wilson from Vernon River and Marguerite Surette of Yarmouth, NS.
He is survived by his youngest sister Shirley Gardiner, Cardigan and sister Wendy (Gordon) Darrach of Summerside. Survived by his niece Shanahan Gardiner, nephews Nathan and Dillon Gardiner, and Mark and Alex Douglas, great-nieces Fiona Lund and Aila Douglas, and great-nephew Dunstan Lund. Predeceased by his sister Linda (Lloyd) Douglas.
Larry grew up in the Sherwood-Parkdale area and spent time at Holland College, earning his Red Seal Chef’s qualification and a Commercial Design certificate. Larry was a very artistic man in many ways, using his painting, photography and design talents as an outlet.
He and his family opened one of the Island’s first fine-dining establishments (Minnie’s) in 1979. Later Larry’s travels, over the years took him all over the globe for work as a chef, including such places as Toronto, Vancouver and Singapore. He settled into life back on the Island and spent the last ten years enjoying life. His health was poor but he made the best of it and became quite comfortable living at the Atlantic Baptist Home for the past six months.
Many thanks to the staff at the Atlantic Baptist Home, the PCH and QEH for their professional and heartfelt care given to Larry this past year. We will miss you, xoxo.
