Blair MacBeath was a dedicated father and husband, medical doctor, and cattleman. He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on July 7, 1954, and passed away at his home surrounded by family on July 10, 2024. He grew up on a dairy farm in Marshfield, Prince Edward Island, with his parents, Athol MacBeath and Doris Underhay MacBeath, and four brothers. Though he spent most of his adult life in Texas, he always treasured his island roots.
He graduated with his medical degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1980 and moved to Pittsburg, Texas, where he opened his medical practice. He was a general practitioner there for forty-three years, serving several generations of patients. He was not only their physician, but also their friend.
Blair married his wife Janet in 1983, and they welcomed sons Mark in 1984 and Luke in 1987. He loved his family dearly and was also very dedicated to his church. He served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church for the majority of his time in Pittsburg.
He loved his community and served on many committees and boards. He was proud to be Medical Director of Cypress Basin Hospice, and was passionate about their mission. He was also named Man of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and received the Pioneer Breeder Award from the Texas Shorthorn Association.
He was known to his grandchildren Kyleigh, Addison, Sloan, and Hayes as “Grampie” and “Giggy”. That role is the one that meant the most to him. He knew every “stuffie” by name, enjoyed his time playing with Kyleigh and Addison, and treasured his trips to Austin to spend time with Sloan and Hayes, attending their activities.
Blair was a humble man, spending his spare time with family, friends, and his cows. Most cattlemen do not know every cow by name, but he did. Over the past forty-three years, he was dedicated to caring for the people of Pittsburg, his church, and his family.
Blair is survived by his wife Janet MacBeath of Pittsburg; sons, Mark MacBeath and his wife Kelli of Austin and Luke MacBeath and his wife Brittany of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Kyleigh, Addison, Sloan, and Hayes; brothers, Alex MacBeath and his wife Nancy, Rupert MacBeath and his wife Sandy, Gordon MacBeath and his wife Merle, and Malcolm MacBeath and his wife Valerie; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 15, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg. There will be a wake where family will receive friends on Sunday, July 14, 2024, between 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Matt Cox will officiate the services with Mark MacBeath and Luke MacBeath presenting the eulogy. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Nunley, Chuck Johns, Brian Gooding, Rick Cogdill, Bruce Carpenter, Tim Truitt, John Truitt, and Paul R Mayben. Burial will be held at a later date in the Marshfield Community Cemetery in Prince Edward Island.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Cypress Basin Hospice where he served as Medical Director and received excellent care prior to his passing. Cypress Basin Hospice 207 Morgan Street Mt. Pleasant, Texas 75455.

With loving family present, Jean Burch, age 101 years died peacefully at the QEH on January 5, 2024. Jean is survived by her children: Carol (Len) Lang, Sandra (Rick) Hoenecke, Randy (Gay) Burch, Duncan (Sue) Burch; her grandchildren: Randi (Lee) Rosky, Cindy (Leigh) Read, Amy Hoenecke, Joey (Pat) Porter, Kyle Burch; her great grandchildren: Joe and Charly Rosky, Lewis, Sam, and Sadie Read. Jean was predeceased by husband Duncan Arol Burch, parents Abiona (née Waye) and Lloyd Anderson, and siblings Edith, Jack and Roy Anderson.
Born and reared in St. Peter's Bay, Jean's varied life brought her into contact with many people and places. After graduating from Prince of Wales College she began teaching in Bridgetown, moved to the Bank of Nova Scotia in Halifax, ran a Bed and Breakfast in St. Peter's Bay, and a move to Ottawa brought her to working at Frieman's Department Store and ultimately the Public Service Commission. After many years in Ottawa, enjoying friendships and activities both within her work and with The Chalmers United Church choir, Jean retired to PEI where she embraced her many interests.
She pursued a life filled with song: Trinity United Church choir, Oak Tree Singers, Legion Choir; volunteering: Red Cross, UNICEF, Meals on Wheels; executive positions: IODE, FSNA, her condo board; travel: throughout Canada, Europe, Australia, USA, UAE, Oman, Kenya, Hong Kong, and many cruises. These places, and more, were revisited as she travelled with friends or family, always ready to explore a new destination or shared experience. Her love of travel leaves us with concise and delightful documentation of 50 years of ‘trips’ as well as a unique collection of ‘sand’ from around the world.
Mom was a 'going concern' and she only began to slow down in her late 90s. She did daily crossword puzzles, Sudoku, her own yearly income tax returns, online banking, emailing, and kept up with politics on municipal, provincial, and federal levels. Reading was of paramount importance, and she read widely. Although the physical act of dancing was not to be, she loved watching Dancing with the Stars and kept a comprehensive grid to follow. In 2016 she wrote "Meandering Memories of My Life". For those of you who have received cards, letters and emails from her, you know she wrote as she talked - full of anecdotes and wry humour. Her love of song, laughter, ‘organization’, and family and friends carried her well throughout her 42 years of retirement.
We offer many thanks and appreciation for your heartfelt messages of condolence on her passing and extend an invitation to 'Meet and Share' your Jean stories with her family. Please join us in an informal gathering of remembrance in the Morrie Room of MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel (15 Ole King Square) on Thursday, July 11, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. If so desired, a donation in her memory may be made directly to the QEH Foundation or Trinity United Church. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com
