The death occurred at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre on Monday, January 3, 2022 of Roger Earl Balderston of Stratford, age 80 years. Beloved husband of Marjorie (Reid). Loving father of Lisa (Kelvin) Pugh, Erwin (Darlene) and Pam Balderston (Kirby Lund), grampy of Ashley (Peter), Carson and Sadie, and great-grampy of Malcolm and Gabrielle. Brother of Marlene (Wallace) Smith. Predeceased by his parents Earl and Edna (Higgins) Balderston.
Roger was born, raised and lived his entire life in Tea Hill. He attended Cross Roads school and went on to further his education at Prince of Wales College. During his college years he met and fell in love with Marjorie and they shared a love that spanned 57 years.
Roger was passionate throughout his life. In his early career he began working for Keith Pickard, a local architect. Their team was responsible for the design and drawing plans for various large projects which included most of the new schools on PEI built in the 70’s. Roger always had an interest in farming. He chose to carry on his father's legacy and continued growing strawberries. Year after year he worked the land, planted and cared for his crops. All his hard work developed into a very successful family operation known as Tea Hill Farms. Over time he had the opportunity to start a drafting business and became co-owner, and later sole owner of Island Drafting Ltd. Using his skills and knowledge in construction, he later trained and became a highly regarded home inspector, a job perfect for Roger as he left no detail untouched.
As much as Roger loved his work, he loved his family more. As a father he taught many valuable lessons. Being a grandfather brought him pure joy as he continued to live life to the fullest.
Roger lived his life with integrity. He was loyal, kind hearted, adventurous and loved to have a good time, leaving us with so many wonderful memories. He taught us everything except how to live without him.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Friday from Zion Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. (by invitation only).
