The death occurred peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 of Nora Christine MacDonald of Charlottetown, age 67 years. Survived by sister Elizabeth Carroll and special family member Kathy Weir. Predeceased by her parents Harold (Laura) MacDonald and Mildred (Wigmore) MacDonald.

Beloved mother of Peter (Caron Prins) and Ellen (Frank McCloskey), Doris Williams (MacKinnon) passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness; she was 96 years old.

 

Doris was born in Clyde River, the fourth of five children to Gordon and Lulu MacKinnon. While always fondly recalling life on the family farm, Doris spent most of her days in Charlottetown, where she moved at age 18 and where she eventually met and fell in love with E. Paul Williams. After marrying in 1950, Doris and Paul established their life together. Her talent as an accomplished seamstress gave her great pleasure, along with the opportunity to work from home while raising her family. When Peter and Ellen were in their late teens, she went to work for David Campbell at City Drug, which would become Shoppers Drug Mart, eventually retiring in her mid-sixties.

 

Doris and Paul enjoyed social events in Charlottetown with their many wonderful friends and acquaintances, including those hosted at home on Skyview Drive, at the cottage in Lewis Point, or at the Charlottetown Yacht Club, various other societies, and at their church, Zion Presbyterian. She was a loving and devoted mother, caring friend, and dedicated volunteer with Zion Presbyterian, Girl Guides of Canada, Friends of the Confederation Centre Library, Meals on Wheels, and Beaconsfield Historic House.

 

While she was many wonderful and talented things, she would become widely known to many of all ages as the infamous ‘Nannu’; grandmother to Robert McCloskey (Megan Nelson), Laura Cameron (Craig), and Claire McCloskey (Ben Jones), and great-grandmother to Wesley Cameron. Her devotion to her grandchildren was evident to all who knew her, and they were the light of her life, just as she was to them.

 

After Paul passed in 1990, Doris moved to Villa Avenue where her gardens were the talk of the block. Her love for art and music shone during this time, and she spent many afternoons painting in her sunporch or listening to classical music in the backyard. Brighton was home for many years before moving to Harbourside, where from her balcony she enjoyed watching the world sail by, and of course keeping a close eye on goings on at the Club! In her final years, she returned home to Clyde River and received heartfelt care from the wonderful staff at Burnside Community Care, for whom her family is indebted in gratitude.

 

Doris leaves us as the last remaining child of Gordon and Lulu, having been predeceased by her parents, brothers Warren (Neila), of Clyde River, PE, Garfield (Hilda), of Norwood, MA, and sisters Thelma Singleton (Bill), of Wakefield, MA, and Phyillis MacDonald (Oliver), of Churchill, PE.

It has been over five years since my health unexpectedly started to fail and wow, it has been a rollercoaster ride! Now, I always loved rollercoasters, but not this one. Throughout this time my loving wife, Connie, has done whatever she could to make the journey easier. Like all couples, we have had our ups and downs, (it has been a rollercoaster, after all), but she planned as many fun events, trips and outings as I was able to enjoy, and has been my full-time caregiver keeping me safe, and ensuring we explored every available avenue to help with the physical and mental toll this took on both of us.

 

The steady decline of my health in the past two years lead me down the path to MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying), and I was able to determine for myself when enough was enough, and choose to die with dignity on my own terms.

 

I leave behind the woman who made me a DisneyWorld fanatic, went along with my love of NASCAR by attending many races with me across the USA, sharing all kinds of adventures I never thought I would have, taught me to love dogs again, and basically saved my life many years ago when I first thought life was not worth living.

 

I worked as a computer programmer/analyst for more than 45 years, absolutely loved what I did, and was very proud of my career.

 

Family includes my daughters, Cathy MacCormack (Paul), Carin Uhlman (Jamie) and Chrissy Arsenault (Rick), and my stepdaughter Carla McKie (Dale). Dearly loved grandchildren Cassandra Clark (Justyn Power), Andrew MacCormack, Austin Gallant, Mark MacCormack, Sara Arsenault and Katie Arsenault and great-granddaughters Oaklyn and Rae. As well, siblings Carolyn Caron (Robert), Sandra Clark-Hayes (Brent) and Kevin Clark (Julia Moroney), several nieces and nephews, and uncle Keith Anderson (Maureen MacLean).

 

Predeceased by my mother and father, Audrey and Jim, who I adored.

 

Thanks to the nurses of PEI Home Care and McGill Centre who made it a little easier, and to the staff of the QEH Renal Unit, especially Rachael, Karen, and Dawn, who always made us feel very special. The MAiD team, Drs. Baglole, Campbell and Murray, and sweet Kae were amazing.

 

Thanks to great friends Debbie Reid, Karla Shalley, Kathy Gillis and Susan Palmer for hanging out with us when we needed you. David and Sharon MacLeod, you are special people.

 

Last, but not least, thanks to the many local and regional musician friends who provided me with so many years of entertainment. Private remembrances will be held at later times.

It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of our beloved husband and father, Allison Wayne “Turk” Ellis, in his 73rd year, on Tuesday September 10, 2024 at the QEH, surrounded by his three girls.

 

Born on July 20, 1951, Allison was the fifth child and fourth son of Bruce and Beth Ellis of Stanhope. He will be forever missed by his wife of 44 years, Heather, his two daughters Megan (Michael Dziedzic) and Bethany (Mark Murdoch) and fur baby Ralphie. Allison will also be tremendously missed by his siblings Irene MacDonald, Donnie (Lorraine), Gordie (Janice), Howard (Wanda), Irwin (Carole), Janet, Preston (Martha), Norma (Mike), Sterling (Heather), siblings-in-law Billy (Linda), Strachan (Karen), Ann, Lee (Eric), Everett (Leah), Joan (the late Sterling), Kelly (John), as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn the aunties he loved so much, Wanda Mallett, Marguerite Ellis and Joyce Skinner, as well as aunt Marjorie Ellis. Allison also leaves behind numerous, dear, life-long friends who ended up feeling (and are considered) more like family. He was predeceased by his parents Beth and Bruce Ellis, his infant son Zackary, parents-in-law William and Clara MacKay, brothers-in-law Sandy (the late Helen)MacKay and Sterling MacKay, as well as multiple dear friends.

 

As number five of ten, Allison embodied many qualities associated with middle children. He made friends easily and found connections with people no matter where he went and who he was with - the majority of these relationships lasting until his last breath. He was innovative and enjoyed jimmyrigging various things around the house with the “treasure troves” of items he saved along the way (we can’t wait to see what awaits us in his many storage barns). He was a strong team player who could be depended on in any situation - whether on the course, rink, field or to lend a helping hand to a friend or family member in need. He will be missed by his Sunday golf group, winter card group and the numerous pals made from his athletic days and while working at Island Tel.

 

He was an extremely proud father of both of his girls and was thrilled they had each found great men to spend their lives with and was excited for the next stages of their lives.

 

A life well lived was cut far too short and the void his absence has left in our hearts and lives is enormous. We will miss the greatest man we’ve ever known for the rest of our lives.

John Frederick McInnis, age 77, peacefully passed away on August 28th, 2024 at the Provincial Palliative Care Center, in Charlottetown after a brief but challenging battle with liver cancer. Born on 1947 in Tracadie Cross, he was the beloved father of his only child, Shannahn. John is survived by his sisters Barbra and Margarita and brothers Gerard, Robert, Paul, Allen, Frederick and Patrick, as well as his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Donalda and Deborah, brother Michael and his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Beverley.

 

John faced many challenges throughout his life and certainly "beat the odds" many times with great resilience. Known for is love for his family, protective nature, passion for politics, love of art and big laugh, Johnny's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His passing leaves a deep ache in our hearts, and he will be dearly missed.

 

Both John and the family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the brilliant nurses, volunteers, doctors and support staff at the Provincial Palliative Care Center for their compassionate care. Your dedication created a sanctuary where John's final days were met with comfort and dignity, where his life could be celebrated, and where beauty and tranquility of nature and art around him, eased his transition. With profound sadness, the family of Lois Margaret (nee MacQuarrie) MacPhail announce the peaceful passing of their mother on the late evening of August 17, 2024.

 

Margaret had a remarkable and professional career as a dedicated public servant, and most importantly held the honour as the devoted and cherished matriarch to her immediate family. Her life was marked by a loving commitment to her children, family members, and as a quiet devout supporter to her community, and province.

 

In earlier years, Margaret taught school for one year to acquire more formal education. While attending Acadia University to further her studies, she played hockey, piano and enjoyed the many social connections of campus life. The diversity from rural life along with the university setting spurred her pursuit of higher education throughout her entire life. She attended Toronto Western Hospital in Ontario to complete a certification as a Canadian Registered Laboratory Technologist/Professional. After employment at the Toronto Western Hospital, she moved back to PEI and worked at the Prince Edward Hospital and later to the provincial laboratory in Haematology. She later became the Department Head for the Immunology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

 

Her quiet, yet self-disciplined ways led to awards and expanding interests for others. Margaret's dry yet quiet sense of humor would appear when appropriate, and her demeanor led to stimulating others to develop such things as a school band, library, and in becoming a PEI Director for CSLT(CSMLS). These items combined garnered her an award as Mrs. Chatelaine Runners-Up in Canada in the 1960s and later receiving an Award of Merit from The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association while her involvement with medical laboratory technology led her to receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

 

Her career spanned over 39 years and her personal interests included passions such as art, gardening, medical lab history, and as part of a committee ensured Hard of Hearing was resourced properly in areas such as hospitals through her volunteer work well into her senior years. She remained a member of the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) at the time of her passing. Throughout her working life she had published medical related papers, including developing tests still used today, and was well known for adhering to privacy policies in Health Care. Margaret was an elder at the Cornwall United Church, now renamed to West River Church and carried a lifelong strong and resilient faith.

 

Margaret was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife. Predeceased by her husband, Colin J MacPhail, they raised two children, Ian MacPhail (Rosalind) and Ellen MacPhail (Greg MacKay) and ensured they obtained well rounded opportunities. In her retirement years, she had a keen interest in her 2 grandchildren, Jenilyn DeLong (Shawn) and Ryan MacPhail (Janice) and 2 cherished great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Aiden MacPhail. Her step grandchildren of David, Mark and Carrie Howell also held a special place in her heart. Margaret was born on July 9, 1930 in Hampton, PEI as one of six children to Boyd MacQuarrie and May Monkley. She is predeceased by brothers William, Ray, and sisters Annie and Muriel. Margaret's younger sister Sarah MacQuarrie mourns the loss of her sister, along with a large extended family of nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbours.
