With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ralph Kennedy, who left us peacefully on November 4, 2024, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Ralph was predeceased in February 2024 by his wife of 64 years, Gail (Currie). He is survived by his children, David (Lisa) and Pam Mills (Jeff); his grandchildren, Curtis, Trent, Catherine, Adam, and Alexandra; and his great-grandchildren, Adelynn, Hazel, Isabelle, and Wesley. He also leaves behind his sister, Elizabeth Chevalier (Denis), and in-laws Lynn and Alan Rogerson and Sherrie Meier.
Ralph graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1964 and returned to PEI, where he built a 40-year career as a dedicated family physician. After 25 years at the Polyclinic, he shifted to a full-time role as an Emergency Room physician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital—years he would later call the most rewarding of his career.
Ralph embraced a range of evolving interests throughout his life, from gardening, hunting, fishing, and golf to skeet shooting, building and flying remote airplanes, earning his private pilot’s license, and playing bridge at the Haviland Club. He was also passionate about books and reading.
While Ralph was deeply committed to his career, his true pride and joy was his family, especially in his roles as grandfather and, most recently, great-grandfather. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren, creating memories through shared experiences and meaningful moments together.
For a man who dedicated his life to caring for others, we are immensely grateful for the exceptional care he received during his final days in Unit 2.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ralph’s memory can be made to Hospice PEI. A celebration of life is planned for the summer of 2025. Arrangements entrusted to MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com
