It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Captain Gary James, a devoted husband, loving father, proud veteran, and accomplished airline pilot, who left us far too soon on August 3, 2025, at the age of 63 years.
Gary was predeceased by his father Frederick James in 1981 and his mother Carmen Tardif in 2007.
Born on June 4, 1962, in Port Authur, (Thunder Bay) Ontario, Gary dedicated his life to serving others — first in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served with honor and distinction. Then, Gary served with integrity and professionalism as a civil aviation inspector with Transport Canada. Finally, fulfilling a childhood dream, Gary served as a commercial airline pilot for Air Canada, safely guiding thousands of passengers across skies around the world.
His deep love of flight was matched only by his unconditional love for his family. He was a devoted and caring husband to Anik, his cherished ‘Cocotte’. He was the kind of man who showed his love not just in words, but in everyday acts of care. Whether it was brewing her morning coffee, a reassuring smile across the dinner table, or a quiet presence that brought peace, his devotion was always felt. Gary was also a loving and dedicated father to his young sons, Samuel and Gabriel. His world revolved around them, and everything he did was rooted in a fierce, unwavering devotion to their happiness and future. Whether he was splashing in the pool, building a backyard ice rink, or sharing quiet bedtime stories, Gary brought warmth, joy, and strength into every moment with his boys. He taught them through example—how to be kind, to laugh often, and to face life with courage and love.
Gary also had a deep love for the great outdoors. A man of quiet strength and deep curiosity, Gary found joy in the simple wonders of life: the rustling of leaves on a wooded trail, the serenity of a still lake at dawn, and the call of birds overhead. An eager fisherman and bird lover, he cherished his time in nature and passed that love on to his children through countless family outings, camping and early morning fishing trips, and long hikes in all seasons.
When Gary wasn’t flying, he also found much pleasure in the kitchen. He was passionate about food!
Another way to show his love was often found in the meals he cooked and the sweet treats he baked — whether it was a perfectly seasoned spaghetti sauce, a loaf of fresh bread, or the crème brûlées his family requested at special gatherings. Everything he prepared was made special by his hands and heart.
Additionally, Gary was a passionate hockey fan and goalie, known for his sportsmanship, sense of humor, and love of the game — whether watching from the stands, assisting on the ice, or lacing up his skates for a weekend game with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anik Boileau James, his twin boys Samuel and Gabriel James, his sister Carol (Robin), his brother Brian (Margaret), his parents-in-law, Rita Côté, Léo and Danielle Boileau, his brothers-in-law, Daniel Boileau and Martin Boileau (Jennifer), his Goddaughter, Évangeline, his nieces and nephews, Madéline, Luciana, Mattéo and Miguel, and his Godson Aidan Choi. In addition, he is survived by a wider circle of family, friends, and colleagues. Those who knew Gary will remember his genuine heart, generous spirit, and the way he could light up a room with his presence. He had a quiet strength and a steadfast loyalty that made him someone others could always count on.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the fall, as the family is preparing to move out of province.
If you wish to make a remembrance contribution in lieu of flowers, please consider the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation as your charity of choice in honor of Gary.
Captain Gary James took to the skies with courage and grace. Though he has taken his final flight, his legacy will continue to soar in the hearts of all who knew him.

The death occurred peacefully on August 5, 2025, of Jennifer Morningstar (nee Reck) of Cornwall, PEI. She was predeceased by her daughter, Faith Ariel Morningstar (1996-2001), and is survived by her granddaughter Alina Ariel Seymour, her daughter Kayla P. Morningstar (Isaiah Seymour), her son Robert F. Morningstar, and two sets of parents, Susan and Zeke Eaton, and Philip and Kim Reck.
Jennifer particularly enjoyed being able to stay at home raising her children. When they were in school, she returned to her education and graduated later in life from the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) with a BA, majoring both in political studies, and a dual major in sociology and anthropology. Over the years, she found deep satisfaction in volunteering with PEI’s Cooper Institute, World University Services Canada (WUSC), and the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC), as well as in being active in the Atlantic Pagan/Wiccan community. She was also a voracious reader of science fiction and fantasy.
Jennifer also wished to thank all of the people who helped her, even as the Lupus lived up to its common name “the disease of 1000 faces”.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Visitation Thursday from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. No funeral service by personal request.
It was her request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made directly to either Lupus Canada or the PEI Literary Alliance Ready-Set-Learn Program.

Peacefully, at Gillis Lodge on July 28, 2025, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, Sean Grant McCarthy of Charlottetown. Survived by his son, Kerry (Sophie Doyle), brothers Mike (Heather) Ottawa, Kerry (Danie) Gananoque, Patrick (Emily) Ottawa, nephews Conor, Rory, Liam and Sean, and nieces Briannon and Molly. Remembered and cherished by many members of the Grant and McCarthy families, especially uncle Ray Grant, Victoria Cross. Predeceased by his parents Pearl Grant and Gerard McCarthy. The family is deeply appreciative for the love and support of cousins Katherine and Susie Grant, and the comfort and care that Sean received from all the staff, nurses and doctors at the QEH and Gillis Lodge.
Born on September 21, 1961, Sean grew up in Summerside and made his home in Charlottetown where he was instrumental in establishing a Narcotics Anonymous self-help group for recovering addicts more than thirty years ago. Over many years he has supported and encouraged numerous people in their recovery journey; and they were there for him on his final journey. A man of deep faith, he shouldered the burdens of addiction and mental illness with grace and eternal optimism. His greatest joy was his son Kerry who was inspired by his Dad’s love of music and art. Sean found peace and serenity on long walks at Lakeside Beach and the family cottage there. And the best part of our family gatherings were Sean’s Willie Nelson renditions.

The death occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, of William Arthur “Bill” Henry of Charlottetown, aged 85 years. Beloved husband of Susan (nee Fraser), father of Lynn, Bonnie, Sarah, and Jenn (Jeff Grandy), and proud grandfather of David and Ella Gallant, and Fraser Grandy. Predeceased by his parents William and Evelyn (nee Bryanton), and sister Janice (Angus) McBeath.
Although his studies and vocation would eventually take him far from PEI, Bill was a staunch Islander through and through, often telling lively tales of his boyhood growing up in Charlottetown attending West Kent School and Prince of Wales College. From there he entered Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he earned a history degree, received his commission as an officer in the Canadian Forces, and met Susan, the fellow student he would marry in 1963. Bill was deeply proud of his decades-long service in Canada’s military, especially his significant and often perilous peacekeeping work in Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon and across the Middle East. With his young family, he also lived in Holland and in many different cities across Canada, moving every two years to embrace new responsibilities. As proud as he was to be in the military, over the years Bill became prouder still of his children—four very different daughters who all grew up with the sense that no education or career path was closed to them. Bill’s last posting took him back to his beloved PEI, and it was here, after retirement, that he gardened, read voraciously, kept close watch over the people and animals in his Brighton neighbourhood and discovered the great joy of his later years: being a devoted grandfather to David, Ella and Fraser.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 24 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at The Haviland Club. A private interment will be held in Sherwood Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made directly to Island Nature Trust or War Amps PEI.
