Patricia Renfrew Preston passed peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025, with loved ones by her side. Lovingly remembered by her sister Peggy Holland Williams, nieces Susan Holland; Bethany Holland and her daughters Hannah (Cameron), Grace (Jarett), and Maeve; and Mary (Les) Holland Bonnett and their sons Pearson (Leighton) and Nicholas; and special great-grandniece Luna. She will be dearly missed by her longtime friend Mary-Jane Younis. Patricia was a lover of animals and is survived by special furry family, Fanny Patricia, Frankie, and Lily. Predeceased by her partner Aggey Vakselis and parents Richard and Olga (Rogers) Preston.

 

Born in New York City on August 2, 1937, and raised in the city of Summerside. Patricia was the first Lobster Carnival Queen. She left PEI to study nursing at the Montreal General Hospital, graduating in 1959. She was a member of the team for the first cardiac catheterization surgery at the Jewish General Hospital. After her nursing career, she supported her partner in his endeavours. She returned to PEI in 2011.

 

She was an ardent lover of the Montreal Canadiens over the years.

 

A very special sister, aunt, and friend - Patricia will be dearly missed.

The death occurred peacefully at her late residence on Thanksgiving Day Monday, October 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, of E. Anne Smith of Charlottetown, age 88 years. Beloved mother of Stephen (Patti), Nancy (Brad) Smith Robinson, Peter (Debby), and Andy (Barb). Proud Nana of Lindsay (Brian), Matthew (Erin), Allison (Joe), Michael (Nate), Eric, Laura, Amy (Will), Kate (Morgan), Ben (Beth), and Alex (Kelsey) and great-Nana of Stetson, Jaxon, Hayes, Huxley, Sullivan, Clark, Louie, Kip, Sonny, Cal, Harvey, and Estelle. Fondly remembered by her former husband and father of her children, Don Smith, sister-in-law Sandra MacPhail, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and cherished colleagues from RBC Dominion Securities. Anne was a force for good in her community serving on numerous boards including the QEH Foundation, the Confederation Centre of the Arts Foundation, the UPEI Board of Governors, Canada Post and Island Tel, and was actively involved with her church serving as both a Trustee and an Elder at Park Royal United Church, and was an active member of the Liberal Party of PEI for many years. She was a dedicated member of Probus and enjoyed a 60-year affinity with the Bridge Club.

 

She blazed a trail for women in the financial sector including a long and distinguished career with RBC Dominion Securities, earning her credentials as a Designated Certified Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI). Prior to this she served in the Office of the Premier under Alex B. Campbell and the late Joseph “Joe” Ghiz.

 

She was presented with an honourary doctorate from UPEI, marking a significant milestone in her career and life.

 

She will be most remembered as a wonderful mother and nana, and as a faithful and loyal friend to all who were blessed to be in her very large circle.

A loud life ends quietly. Age 89, Dr. Thomas Herbert Scantlebury succumbed to time at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, PEI.

 

He achieved so much in his allotted term, most consequentially he would always say was wedding Marion Harriet Nichol on March 4, 1957. She will now carry on without him along with their children Debra (Brian) MacLean, Stephen (Gloria), Scott (Pam MacPherson), Dawne (David) MacDougall and Shane (Cheryl). The pets who depended on him, Nugget and Tony will also have to do without his affection and attention. Also survived by sister-in-law Dawn and nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his brothers George (June) and Roy, mother Rebe and dad Wally.

 

In his final days and weeks, he reveled in the memories of a long lifetime of adventure and eagerly shared them with whoever sat to talk.

 

Born in Charlottetown, he made significant stops at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS; Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax, and Bridgewater, NS where he opened his first medical practice. Desable, PEI where he endeavoured to become a country doctor and gentleman farmer. Aberdeen, Mississippi; Lewiston-Auburn, Maine; Wellington, Florida; Alexander, Maine, and finally Cornwall, PEI.

 

While his time was finite, Tom challenged any limits on the distance he would and did travel. For both pleasure and work, he visited and appreciated life in many parts of Canada and the United States. His adventures also took him to far away places such as New Zealand, Pitcairn Island, and Europe.

 

He made acquaintances on his journey but if you were among those who he considered friends, you were in exclusive company. Those exceptionalities were incredibly diverse, among them were medical colleagues, professional wrestlers, golf partners, childhood pals, fellow travelers, and even descendants of Mutiny on the Bounty.

 

Tom’s children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren are profoundly his lasting legacy. They are indebted to him for the full story of his life and for lessons of love, dignity, honour, and of living fully the life that God provides.

 

In his later years, Tom dabbled in art, painting proficiently, his canvases most often depicted images he photographed or remembered for his many adventures and experiences.

 

Though he was restrained by injury and infirmity, Tom fought for as much time as he could get with his beloved Marion. Until she joins him, Tom will wait patiently with family, friends, and the many pets he so adored who have gone before him.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Logan Robert Cook on December 28, 2024, in Surrey, BC at the age of 32.

 

Logan will be deeply missed by his beloved children, Haiden and Sophia; his parents Michelle (Harry) and Darren (Kelly); his younger brothers Whyatt and Reece; and his sister Emily (Myles). He leaves behind his cherished niece and nephews. Logan is also survived by his loving grandmothers Penny Plourde and Doreen Cook, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfathers Robert Cook, Stuart Amey and uncle Dean.

 

Logan was free spirit who embraced adventure and lived life to the fullest. His journey took him across Canada, where he created countless memories and left an unforgettable impact on those he met along the way. Whether exploring new places or plowing snow in every corner of the country, Logan approached life with enthusiasm and an unwavering work ethic. Logan’s adventurous spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his kids and family will forever remain in our hearts and be missed.

Kenneth “Ken” KarisAllen passed away on September 12, 2025, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 66. While unexpected, his passing was peaceful, and the family sincerely thanks the medical team at the QEII for their dedication and compassion during that difficult time.

 

Ken was born on October 15, 1958, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, to James Allen and the late Marjorie Allen (Bauckman).

 

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Danyelle KarisAllen, daughter Laura KarisAllen (Zachary Knox), daughter Tasia KarisAllen (Trevor Kordyban), and son Jason KarisAllen (Imogen Allen-Rice). His grandchildren were a true blessing in life: Amelia, Adeline, and Evren, and his newly welcomed grandson, James. He is also survived by his sister Vicki AllenCook (Murray Cook), sister Beverley Allen-Cook (Derek Cook), brother Father Stephen Allen (Tracey Allen), brother Michael Allen, and many nieces and nephews.

 

A life well-lived is one spent doing what you love, with those you love. Ken took particular pride in his work as a metallurgical engineer, co-founding Wayland Engineering and FACTS Engineering. While a self-confessed workaholic, he wouldn’t hesitate to drop everything for his family. Ken loved to build, including his own home and then renovating his son’s in recent years. He could easily master any skill, like playing a 12-string guitar, earning his pilot’s license, and walking on his hands. Although Ken never quite mastered the dance floor, his special moves will be missed at every family occasion. His daily pieces of bacon for his dogs, Charlie and Josie, will also be missed.

 

Ken was never one to brag about himself, but he would be the first to brag about those he loved, especially his kids. His fierce loyalty, intelligence, and stubbornness live on through them and future generations, who will miss him every day.

 

If a life well-lived is to be loved, then he surely died content, knowing his family was with him. Ken passed away surrounded by his wife, kids, daughter-in-law, grandson, and sisters, singing his favourite song, Dreamweaver.
