It is with great sadness that the family of C. Basil Irving, 99, of Charlottetown announces his peaceful passing with his family by his side at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Basil was predeceased by Catherine “Kay” (nee MacKay), his loving wife and soulmate of 64 years. Basil is survived by his four daughters: Brenda Ann (Larry) Butler, Donalda (Mike) Clow, Cathie (Lowell) Bernard and Nathalie (Daniel Steele); cherished grandchildren Erin, Heidi, Ian, Stephen; Damian; Adam, Chris; Angus and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephew, sibling-in-laws Mae Irving, Margaret Irving, Jessie Dennison, Donalda Courtney, and Wayne MacKay. Basil was predeceased by his grandson, Ryan Clow; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Butler; his parents Nathan and Rebecca (nee Derby); brothers Chessel, Axel, and David; niece Linda and nephew Allan, and sibling-in-laws Phyllis Irving, Sterling MacKay, Leona Giddings, and Angus MacKay.
Born at home in Cape Bear (Beach Point), PEI on October 27, 1924, Basil had many adventures with his brothers on the family farm and, shortly after marrying Kay, they moved to Charlottetown, bought their home of 54 years where they raised their four daughters. He was very proud to witness the educational and work accomplishments of his daughters and their children.
Basil lived an active life. Basil and Kay were often seen on their daily walks, hand-in-hand. They both enjoyed many years of bowling and then square dancing where they met many new friends.
Basil and Kay loved to travel and camp. They made several trips to visit relatives in Massachusetts, to Florida where they eventually wintered for 12 years, to Expo ‘67 and ’86, across Canada in 1976, and numerous other trips in Canada and the US. After retiring from exactly 35 years with the Provincial Civil Service, Basil was able to travel further afield with Kay, and they made four trips to Europe (one included the Soviet Union).
Church life was very important to Basil, and he and Kay were devoted members of Trinity United Church, Charlottetown. Basil dedicated many volunteer hours to the church, and leading by example, showed his daughters of the importance of volunteering their time and skills.
Sincere thanks to the staff of Andrews of Charlottetown for the care and support of our father, Basil, over the last eight years.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel with visiting hours on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. For those wishing to attend virtually, the service will be live-streamed at https://event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=fb8c5c09-a157-4632-b80d-3ffba608861e. The death occurred peacefully at his late residence on Sunday, October 22, 2023 of Allan “Buck” McLeod of Charlottetown, age 87 years. Devoted husband of the late Charlotte (MacEachern) McLeod. Loving father of Lynne (Craig Taylor) and Tim (Melissa). Grampie of Charlie, Angus, and Katie. Survived by siblings-in-law Nan (John) Thompson, Paul (Judy), Antje, Claudette, and Evelyn MacEachern. Predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Florence (McKendrick) McLeod, sister Phyllis (Bill) Bentley, brother Don (Shirley), and siblings-in-law Gordon, Jud, Kay (Shirley), Reigh, Ena (Gordon) and Dawn (Gary).
Allan was devoted to Charlotte for 61 years of marriage. His devotion extended to his children and grandchildren, friends, family, his work and other endeavors. So many treasured memories of his hospitality, energy, and love of life. He was an inspiration to all, young and old, and had such an impact on so many. He was very involved in Rotary, particularly the exchange student program, and his other passions included harness racing, fishing, and all things PEI. He was always available to talk and listen, and his wisdom, advice, and hard work were seemingly endless.
Grampie was adored and admired by his grandchildren Charlie, Angus, and Katie, and he had unlimited time and energy for them-enjoying time when they were in PEI, fun at the beach, trips to see the horses at the race track, and enjoying lots of ice cream. He was interested in everything that was going on-from school to friendships; baseball to skiing, basketball to Highland dancing. He shared lots of stories, laughs, and experience in life.
It is considered a success if you have lived well, laughed often, and loved much; earned the respect of others and the love of children; leave the world better than you found it; looked for the best in others and always gave your best. This was Allan McLeod.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garth Warren Delaney. Garth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, October 23, 2023. A generous soul, Garth’s warmth touched the lives of many.
A man dedicated to his family, Garth was a nurturing husband to the love of his life, Isabel Delaney. He was a dedicated father to his three girls, Kaitlin Delaney, Melissa Delaney and Ashley Cousins. He was a loving grandfather to Charlie Delaney Barrett. He was a proud dog dad to Angus “Angie” Delaney. Garth is survived by his sister Judy (Blaine) Corkum, his sister-in-law Darlene MacDonald, with whom he shared a very special bond, and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Marie (Sherren) and Warren Delaney, and his stepson David Cousins.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, on January 14, 1962, Garth’s family moved home to North Tryon, PEI, in 1968. He started his career with John Deere in 1985 at Reddin Farm Equipment. Garth enjoyed a 38-year career under the John Deere banner, working in many dealerships in many roles, always using his mechanical mind to advance his skills. His last role was as an integrated solutions manager for Green Diamond Equipment, travelling throughout the Maritimes.
Garth’s happy places included the golf course, taking care of his friends and family in the kitchen, and “Dave’s Place” in Hampton, strolling the beach. He enjoyed nothing more than cracking “dad jokes” and surprising people with his dry sense of humor. He loved making people laugh.
The family extends a sincere thank you to the healthcare team that supported them. Dr. Ron Nicholson, the oncology team at the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre, including Dr. Boucher and Dr. Brown, the palliative care team, and especially Cathy Hughes and Winter Weatherbie, who went above and beyond on so many occasions. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel from where the service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. If so desired, donations may be made directly to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation (PEI Cancer Treatment Centre). Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com
Although we’re heartbroken, we know Garth’s loving soul will live on with his family and friends.

The family of Ron MacLean announce his death with deep sadness but gratitude for the love we shared. Ron died peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at home with his wife Gail by his side.
Ron, also known by his nickname Bunnie, was born in Charlottetown on May 8, 1944, to his parents Ronald Sr. and Muriel (Ross) MacLean.
Ron was devoted to the love of his life, Gail (Stewart) whom he met in 1969 while recovering from surgery in the Prince Edward Island Hospital. Gail was his student nurse. They married in 1971 and shared a beautiful fifty-two years together. He is also survived by his much-loved children, Steven, Karen (Matthew Roode) and Jillian (Jonathan MacDonald). Ron and Gail became grandparents to Seth, Mila, Josie, and Tyler. They cherished their new role and in true Ron fashion, he called them “My Grampies”, as he was the giver of nicknames. Ron was a beloved big brother to Judy, Dolly, Debbie (Wayne Muttart), John, and the late Garry. He is survived by his sister-in-law Debbie MacLean. He is remembered with love by his mother-in-law Isabelle Stewart and Gail’s sisters and their husbands, Karen (Grant MacLeod), Brenda (Colin MacDonald), Sandra (Bruce Morrison) and Cheryl (Graham Courtney). He was predeceased by his father-in-law Lea Stewart. When Ron and Gail married, Ron became very much like a son and brother to the Stewart family. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews who have many fond memories of their Uncle Ron/Uncle Bunnie.
Ron was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather who loved and was loved beyond measure!
Ron and Gail were fortunate to enjoy traveling, with trips across Canada, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Europe, and South Korea. His children have fond memories of camping at Marco Polo, trips to Disney, the Dominican Republic, and the Mediterranean.
Ron had a passion for music and at the age of 19 became the band leader and drummer of “The Blue Crystals”. The band played rock and roll music across the Island from 1964-1989 and would get together to play for special occasions for many more years. He also played drums from 1997-2018 for “Step by Step”, a Christian band from Park Royal United Church. Ron made lifelong friends through his love of music and often, with other band members, donated his time to fundraisers for individuals and charitable organizations.
He also volunteered as a board member of the Schizophrenia Society of Prince Edward Island for 20 years. His community volunteerism extended to the Sherwood minor hockey program, as well as Park Royal Church. The PEI Real Estate Association presented him with the “Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Coady Memorial Award” in 2003 in recognition of his exemplary community service.
Ron’s career path took him to Custom Interiors after high school, where he met Bernie Gillbank in the upholstery department. They opened G & M Upholstery in 1970 and became business partners and lifelong friends. In 1998, Ron changed careers and operated the Bright Spot Convenience Store and then in 2000, began his career in Real Estate until his retirement.
Ron had major health issues over the years but took each one in stride and carried on. Unfortunately, following back surgery in October 2020, Ron developed an incurable back infection which led to a long admission at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
We are forever grateful for the care and kindness shown to Ron and his family during this time, especially the nurses and staff on Unit 3. We also wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. J. Hennessey, Dr. D. Neilly, Dr. A. MacKenzie and Dr. K. Ellis for their excellent medical care while in hospital and to his family physicians, Dr. B. Lantz, and Dr. P. Corney.
After discharge from the hospital in May 2021, Ron received help at home from the COACH program and Queens County Home Care. Ron and Gail met many staff and thank them all for their care. A special thank you to Amanda, Wendy, Carolyn, Megan, and Amy.
Ron will be remembered for his incredible sense of humour, his big smile, and his ability to make all those he met feel at home and welcome. He was a good man.
Ron loved trees and nature so think of him as you enjoy this beautiful fall season.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. from Park Royal United Church (reception to follow). For those wishing to attend virtually, the service will be live-streamed on Park Royal United Church’s YouTube channel. Interment in Peoples Cemetery, Malpeque. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation (Unit 3) or Queens County Home Care, in recognition of the care he received. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com
