His is survived by his partner Mary Phalen, his children Scott (Cameron Dobson) Mackie, Simon Mackie and Alan Mackie, stepdaughter Emilia Phalen, brother Ian (Kim Minkus) Mackie, sister Natalie (Bruce Inglis) Mackie, and granddaughter Autumn Mackie. Craig was predeceased by his parents Alan and Lorie.
Craig had a long history of working in radio and journalism, beginning in 1978 as a station manager for CKCU campus radio at Carleton University. He moved to the Yukon in 1981 to join the CBC. He worked at stations across the country for the next 23 years, eventually settling in Prince Edward Island. On the Island he was known for his work with the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada, where he served as Executive Director until 2021.
Craig led an active life. He curled competitively for more than 50 years, and played tai chi for over two decades. An avid photographer and birdwatcher, he cherished the outdoors - especially the beach at Lakeside. Craig loved to play games, with a particular passion for cribbage and backgammon. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, with a fondness for all things silly and absurd.
