It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear aunt and friend, Ena Eliza Bertram on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Andrews of Stratford.
Ena was born on August 29, 1935, to Frederick and Fanny Bertram (nee Sellick), in Charlottetown. She was the 2nd of 3 children and the only sister to older brother, Edward and younger brother, Raymond.
Ena worked at Canada Packers, on the meat processing assembly line for some time until she badly injured her wrist and was unable to continue her employment there. She then worked as a telephone operator at Island Telephone for a period of time.
Ena was a hard worker, taking on many projects helping friends and certainly loved pampering her car!
Ena lived most of her life at 22 Mount Edward Road in Charlottetown with her beloved mother. She remained there until the house was moved to make way for a round about. Ena maintained the home meticulously, fixing and painting whenever needed. She was particularly adept at furniture restoration.
Ena was an active member of her church Central Christian Church becoming the choir director for a time. Music was a huge part of her life, starting from a young age. There was always music in her life, whether on the radio, at church or just at home with her family. Her mother, Fanny, was part of the Sellick family of Brackley, PEI which had a weekly musical program on CFCY Radio. Ena’s uncle, Raymond Sellick, was a popular gospel and country singer with his group, The Merry Makers, which included Fanny, Ena and occasionally her brother Edward. Ena played several instruments including the piano and auto harp. Ena was a beautiful alto singer.
Ena was also an avid golfer, becoming the organizer of her ladies’ golf league in later years. She loved her group of golf ladies and enjoyed time spent with them at Glen Afton Golf Course.
In Ena’s younger years, she was Team Captain of the Abbie Sisters Hockey & Basketball Teams. Winning the PEI Basketball & Hockey Championship in mid 50’s!
Ena was predeceased by her mother, Fanny in 1993, and her brothers Raymond (Patricia) in 2015 and Edward (Loretta) in 2024. Ena leaves to mourn her nephews, Jeffrey Bertram (Jocelyn) and Craig Bertram (Tamara), and niece, Dianne Somers (Dave) as well as great-nieces and a great-nephew, all from Alberta. Also, her first cousin, Faye McLeod, from Ottawa.
She also leaves to mourn her dearest and most cherished friend, Kay McIntyre, and Kay’s daughter, Debbie Frizzell, of Charlottetown. Debbie was like a daughter to Ena, who cherished and loved her as such. Ena also leaves behind her very good friend, Judy Clark.
The family wishes to extend their immense gratitude to Debbie and Kay for their devoted and loving care of Ena, especially during these last years. It is appreciated more than we can say.
Ena’s family, Kay, and Debbie wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Andrews of Stratford for their excellent care and kindness extended to Ena during her last years.
Special thank you to Alison, Shelley & Chloe for spending time with Ena. You really brightened her days and nights! Your kind attention and love for our Ena did not go unnoticed!
Special recognition to Sharon Woods-Bryenton as she certainly enhanced Ena’s stay at Andrew’s with all the music and amazing activities!
