It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of M. Elizabeth (Mickey) Cannon (née MacLeod) of Sherwood on May 25, 2022. Born on January 1, 1928, Mickey was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Frederick M. Cannon. Beloved mother of Nancy (John), Stewart (Merrill), Robert (Chelsea) and Elizabeth (Gérard), and special Grammie to Sara and Réne. Caring aunt to Glenn, Barb (Jim) and George (Ghlee) MacLeod. Mickey was predeceased by her brothers George and Bob (Billie) MacLeod, and parents Doug MacLeod and Sarah Warry MacLeod.
In her youth, Mickey was a bright student who graduated with the Governor General’s Medal from Prince of Wales College before receiving her degree from McGill in 1949 at a time when there were few women studying science. After working at Agriculture Canada’s Charlottetown Research Station, she married Fred, had four children and went on to receive her education degree from what is now UPEI. Mickey had a great passion for teaching high school science and math at Charlottetown Rural High School where she impacted generations of students with her care and compassion. Her sense of humour and friendship were valued by many. An avid golfer in her day, Mickey was the PEI Ladies Golf Champion several times.
Glenn, Barb and Jim are thanked for their loving support to our mother over the years. Susan Willis is also thanked for her enduring friendship which was truly treasured. The family would also like to extend their appreciation to Whisperwood Villa for their care of Mickey in her final years.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday at Sherwood Cemetery. Public visiting hours Friday from 3 – 5 p.m. If so desired, memorial donations may be made directly to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice. Loving husband of Caroll (nee MacKenzie), father of David (Sandra) and John (Julie), loving grandfather “GoGo” of Kristi (Ryan) MacLeod, Courtney (Derek) Empey, Travis (Ashtin) Willis, Taylor Willis (Justin Mouflier), Tate Saulnier, and Ava Tweedy and great-“GoGo” of Regan, Declan, Cole and Noah. G. Gordon Tweedy was an amazing human being. He loved fiercely, forgave easily, and helped many on this crazy road called life.
Gord was proudly the first UNB Law graduate called to the Bar of Prince Edward Island on November 28, 1963.
Although law was his vocation - helping others, wood working, his tractor, his family and hockey were his passions.
Gord played hockey until he was 80 and was the biggest UNB Reds hockey fan ever.
In his middle years, Gordie started the lawyer referral/assistance program in PEI and beyond – taking it global without the internet.
Gord was a lifelong Rotarian and lived their motto “Service Above Self”. In honour of his father’s Rotary service, he started the George J. Tweedy Service Award and even crafted the award itself.

Passed away peacefully early on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the age of 86.
Alan was the son of James Lester Douglas, MP, and Mabel (Wright), RN. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie Helen (Hurst), and was a wonderful father to Peter and Alison. He will be dearly missed by his daughter-in-law, Janet Midgley, whom he adored, and his four grandchildren, Ian, Libby, Katie and Robbie of whom he was very proud. He was predeceased by his siblings, Albert Douglas (Ernestine) and Emmy Lou Jenkins (Irwin).
Alan had friends and family too numerous to list, with whom he enjoyed many good times and adventures, from ski trips to camping to theatre and dinners out: Lloyd and Olive Seaman; Keith and Marion Pomeroy; Charlie and Joyce Rogers; Leith and Joan Thompson; Lawson and Eileen Drake; Trevor and Muriel Hunt; Richard and Barbara Hurst, David and Janet Hurst, and then Barbara Kooy; Miriam and Jim…The list goes on.
In particular, he will be greatly missed by his brother-in-law, nemesis and best friend, Trevor Hunt (twin sister Muriel), and nieces and nephew, Beth, Wendy and Ian, along with his many other nieces and nephews to whom he was always been “Uncle Al, the Kiddie’s Pal”.
Alan was very involved in his community and churches in Ottawa and was a founding member of Glen Cairn United Church and, later, an active Rotarian in Charlottetown. As well, he and good family friend, Paul Walker, coached Alison and Julie Walker’s team to become Ontario Girls’ Champions in 1980. After attending McGill University and then obtaining his PhD in statistics from Cornell University, Alan had a 35-year career with the Federal Government in Ottawa.
Like many men of his era, for whom marriage meant “til death do us part”, Alan patiently and lovingly cared for his wife for several years at home after a series of strokes, both in Ottawa and PEI, until her passing in March of 2011. He finally returned with Marj to their birthplace of Charlottetown 2009 to be near his children and grandchildren while he cared for Marj at home in her final years.
Peter and Alison would like to express their gratitude to Darlene MacGregor, Ehsher Khu, Maigan Perry and so many others at Whisperwood Villa, as well as the awesome folks at Symmetrics Health, for their extraordinary compassion, humour and care. Dad (and we) could not have gotten along without you!
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. A graveside service will be held at a later date. For those who would like to make a donation in Dad’s name, we would encourage you to support any of the following: SAFE (Safe and Friendly Environment), the Alzheimer Society of PEI, or Park Royal United Church.
