Obituary piracy

A petition has been filed with the House of Commons asking the federal government to ban the practice of obituary piracy. You may have noticed third-party sites posting obituaries which profit from the sales of flowers, tree planting and memorial products/keepsakes.

We encourage individuals to review and sign the petition; share it with your network of contacts and ensure digital dignity for individuals and families.

Charitable donations

Effective July 1, 2024, MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel will no longer be accepting memorial donations at the funeral home. Those wishing to make memorial contributions will need to contact the charity directly.

We endeavour to have an updated list of Island-based charitable organizations and their contact information available via our website.

For those volunteer-based organizations who would like support in expanding their capacity for charitable contributions, we are pleased to provide guidance.
