Réal passed away peacefully on his own terms, with his loving partner Ghislaine by his side, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown on Monday, January 10, 2022. Survived by brother, Oneil (Thérèse) and nephew, Denis.
Originally from Edmundston, NB, Ray called Charlottetown home for many decades.
A lifelong musician, his passion for singing and music knew no boundaries. His greatest joy as a professional singer was to please his audience through the gift of music. Whether a formal engagement or a good old PEI kitchen party, he was always a generous performer. This generosity went beyond music, and many benefited from his kindness. In lieu of charitable donations, his final wish is reach out to someone in need. Be it an acquaintance, friend, or stranger, do something meaningful to help make someone's life a little easier.
Arrangements entrusted to MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. There will be no service by personal request. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com

The death occurred at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre on Monday, January 3, 2022 of Roger Earl Balderston of Stratford, age 80 years. Beloved husband of Marjorie (Reid). Loving father of Lisa (Kelvin) Pugh, Erwin (Darlene) and Pam Balderston (Kirby Lund), grampy of Ashley (Peter), Carson and Sadie, and great-grampy of Malcolm and Gabrielle. Brother of Marlene (Wallace) Smith. Predeceased by his parents Earl and Edna (Higgins) Balderston.
Roger was born, raised and lived his entire life in Tea Hill. He attended Cross Roads school and went on to further his education at Prince of Wales College. During his college years he met and fell in love with Marjorie and they shared a love that spanned 57 years.
Roger was passionate throughout his life. In his early career he began working for Keith Pickard, a local architect. Their team was responsible for the design and drawing plans for various large projects which included most of the new schools on PEI built in the 70’s. Roger always had an interest in farming. He chose to carry on his father's legacy and continued growing strawberries. Year after year he worked the land, planted and cared for his crops. All his hard work developed into a very successful family operation known as Tea Hill Farms. Over time he had the opportunity to start a drafting business and became co-owner, and later sole owner of Island Drafting Ltd. Using his skills and knowledge in construction, he later trained and became a highly regarded home inspector, a job perfect for Roger as he left no detail untouched.
As much as Roger loved his work, he loved his family more. As a father he taught many valuable lessons. Being a grandfather brought him pure joy as he continued to live life to the fullest.
Roger lived his life with integrity. He was loyal, kind hearted, adventurous and loved to have a good time, leaving us with so many wonderful memories. He taught us everything except how to live without him.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Friday from Zion Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. (by invitation only). For those wishing to attend virtually, the service will be live-streamed on the church’s website www.zionpres.org. Interment in Calvin Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mermaid. If so desired, memorial donations to Calvin Presbyterian Church Cemetery or Hospice PEI would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com

Born in Danville, Quebec to Margaret Barlow and Russell Nutbrown, passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown PEI on December 19, 2021. He celebrated his 78th birthday surrounded by family: his wife of 38 years Verna (Coffin): children Jodi (Billy Beaton), Heidi (Andrew Smith), Lydia (Greg Ducharme), Tristan (Bridget Driver); grandchildren Carter, Bronwyn, Bridget, Genevieve, and Caleb; sisters-in-law Doreen Rowe (Steve) and Kay Trainor (Terry Ferrier); brother-in-law Wayne Coffin (Bev). Also survived by Fern Nutbrown (wife of Bob's brother Wayne who predeceased him) and by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bob grew up in both Danville and Brampton, Ont., where he developed his lifelong passions for sports, community development, public service through political involvement, and love of agrarian lifestyles that preserve family values and heritage. Always actively pursuing his goals with clear vision and focused activity, he would joke "the harder I work, the luckier I get". He loved to share his passions and insights on life with others through conversation, friendly argument and story-telling.
He vividly remembered living with his grandmother who brought him up to age 5 and time on Aunt Minnie's farm in Danville as the formative years of his life and his explanation for being a teetotaller until age 35. To all the stories of challenge and accomplishment he shared, he always added an acknowledgement of the guides, mentors and friends who helped him on his way and of the places and organizations that shaped him; Brampton High School where he was president of the student's council and sports team competitor, Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Macdonald College at McGill University (BSc, Agricultural Economics) and Michigan State University (MSc, Economic Development). Bob dedicated his early career to public service and community development in P.E.I., serving as President of PEI Federation of Municipalities, Assistant Deputy Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Principal Secretary and Policy Advisor to the premier, culminating in his role as Secretary to the Cabinet under Premier Jim Lee in Charlottetown.
Bob returned to Brampton in 1984 where he spent the next 3 decades of his life. Starting with a short time in the Ontario government (Ministry of Skills Development and Ministry of Treasury and Economics), he transitioned into business through a brief engagement as Vice President, Canadian Development at Extendicare Health Services, then as commercial/residential real estate salesman, manager and owner focusing on the long-term care sector. He was an active member of the Ontario Long Term Care Association and Ontario Residential Care Association, and an advisor to ConMed Health. He was President of E.A. Mitchell Real Estate, founder/President of Coldwell Banker Pinnacle Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Innovators Realty, and founder/ President of Royal LePage Innovators Realty. He was an active volunteer and leader in the Brampton community through involvement in multiple organizations, serving as: President of the Brampton YMCA, President of the Brampton Board of Trade (executive member for eight years), President of Brampton Real Estate Board, and President of the Ontario PC riding association for Brampton South: representative of Peel Region on the Ontario Chamber of Commerce; member of the Rotary Club of Brampton as well as serving on numerous committees supporting development in the City of Brampton (Chair of Central area Supporters Steering Committee, founding member of the Citizens for a Better Brampton, Chair of Mayor's Roundtable on the Downtown, and founding member of the Mayor's Hospital Task Force). In addition, he played advisory and leadership roles on political campaigns municipally, provincially and federally, supporting the candidacy of friends Maggie McCallion, Tony Clement, Peter Robertson, among others.
Bob was committed to seniors and health care. He was a partner in The Good Samaritan Seniors Complex in Alliston, Ontario, founder/CEO/President of PEI Seniors Homes in Charlottetown, PEI (Garden Home and Whisperwood Villa), President of the PEI Nursing Home Association, partner/CEO of Oromocto and Gagetown Special Care Homes in New Brunswick. He represented PEI on the Canadian Association for Long Term Care and was a fundraiser and Atlantic Canada board member of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Bob was a recipient of The Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada (in recognition of significant "Contribution to Compatriots, Community and Canada) and recipient of WISE 50 Over 50 Award 2018 for new entrepreneurial enterprise started by person over 50 years old.
Family, friends, colleagues and staff remember Bob with fondness and high regard as benevolent, honest, purposeful, and hard working, intentionally sharing his appetite for growth, learning and humour and his commitment to a values-driven life in the hopes that how he lived his life would be an enduring example for those around him. Building communities of caring and prosperity was his lifelong goal fulfilled. The family extends their thanks to the United Health Network Kidney Transplant Unit (Toronto), the William Osler Health Centre (Brampton) and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Charlottetown) for their support and care. To all the individual health care providers who impacted his journey and the last chapter in the story of his life special thanks. And to all Bob's PEI and New Brunswick staff caregivers you truly are Bob's Angels.
