The death occurred peacefully at the Palliative Care Centre on Thursday, December 16, 2021, of Alfred “Freddie” Sauer of Charlottetown, age 65 years. Son of the late George and Clara (Schneider) Sauer of Savage Harbour, PEI. Freddie is survived by sisters Wendy MacDonald (Albert) and Marion MacDonald (Terence) and by brother Tony Sauer (Sophie), and was an affectionate and proud uncle to Katharine, Nicholas, Alanna and Alexandra MacDonald; Stephanie and Debbie MacDonald; and Claire and Andrew Sauer; and great-uncle to Klara and Evan; and to Valentina.

Since his diagnosis in June, Freddie fought a courageous battle with cancer and for much of the fall, he was able to fulfill his wish to live at his home with his beloved pets.

We offer our gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Palliative Home Care Program; to the staff of Island EMS; to the nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals of the Emergency Department, Unit 2, Unit 3, and the Cancer Treatment Centre of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital; and to the staff of the Palliative Care Centre.

Mark Stair Struan Robertson passed away peacefully on December 11, 2021 after a brief illness. Betty, his wife of 64 years, was at his side as were his 5 children - Ian, Susan (Michael), Jude, Neil (Kathy) and Kate (Michael). He is also survived by grandchildren Alison, Charlotte, Nicholas, Fiona, Jesse and Sophie.

Mark was born in London, England on December 5, 1929. His father was Scottish, his mother English. Raised and educated in England (Malvern College), he served in the British Army for two years (Royal Signals, Parachute Regiment and S.A.S) and worked as a salesman in retail and wholesale.

He married the love of his life in 1957 and together they emigrated to Canada where he joined Texaco Canada as a sales rep. He and Betty first lived in Montreal then moved to Halifax then to Saint John. After a wonderful vacation on Prince Edward Island, they returned to England but soon concluded it was a mistake.

Mark worked for 3M Company for two years then he and his now growing family returned to Canada and took up residence in Victoria-by-the-Sea, buying, renovating and operating the village store. In 1965 Mark became an agent for Dominion Life Assurance. A successful career followed, only terminating 48 years later, at age 83.

Mark held many volunteer positions, starting as Chairman of the Victoria Centennial Committee, during which time he and Betty met the Queen & Prince Phillip on board “Britannia”. He served on the Unit 3 School Board, was President of the United Way, President of the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Chairman of the Friends of Confederation Center, Q.E.H. Foundation Volunteer, a Cruise ship ambassador, a driver for Meals on Wheels, and a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. He was also a Rotarian for 34 years, during which time he was President and granted a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Mark loved to travel and was an avid reader. He was a wonderful orator, the Sing Noel commentator numerous times and had a great repertoire of jokes, often reducing Betty to tears of laughter. He loved animals and was the man and his dog for many years in the Brighton neighbourhood. He organized amazing Christmas hunts, was an incredible carpenter, dabbled in homemade wine and photography, made the best raspberry jam, loved cross country skiing and will always be remembered for leading his children and grandchildren in Green Grow the Rushes O.

Mark was a strong supporter of charitable giving and, amongst other charities, supported the QEH Foundation and the PEI Humane Society. He would encourage others to follow suit. The death occurred unexpectedly but peacefully on December 9, 2021, at the Centennial Court Nursing Home of Raymond H. “Bud” MacDonald of Stratford. Beloved husband for 42 years of Gail (nee Gallant) and their loving children Erin (Mike Smith), Amy Hickox (Joel), Ryan (Brianna) and Curtis. Also, his loving daughter Wendy Clark Wolfe (Pat). 8 very special grandchildren will miss him: Parker, Noah, Ari, Tommy, Cam, Hayden, Dane and his namesake Raya. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, brothers-in-law Sonny Gillis, Andy Gallant (Joy) and Jeff Gallant (Debbie), and sisters-in-law Betty MacDonald and Patsy Bolger Gallant.

Bud was the last surviving member of the family of Herb and Gertrude MacDonald of West Covehead. He was predeceased by brothers Gerry and George and sisters Diane Carr (the late Barry), Phyllis Gillis and Blanche Campbell (the late Roland), brother-in-law Stephen Gallant and his mother-in-law, whom he loved dearly, Kay Gallant.

He served with the Canadian Armed Forces as a young man, then went on to work at various locations and was a recognized face in the taxi industry before starting his own business. Bud was the owner/operator of Bud’s Transportation Services for 30 years. He offered a transportation service to seniors and disabled, a job he loved and his clients loved him. His enjoyment in life included spending time with family, camping, road trips, scuba diving, fishing, beach walks, vacations to sunny destinations and motorcycle riding.

On Friday, November 26, 2021, Joe passed away at the QEH, surrounded by his family who he adored more than anything in this world. Born on February 3, 1943, Joe was raised in Sydney Mines. He married his loving wife Jean in 1965 and together they raised their three children, Scott, Nicole and Robert, in their hometown. After his retirement from Marine Atlantic, he and Jean moved to PEI to be closer to their family. His family will always remember him as a man who loved to take care of others and help out anyone who had a project that needed to be done. His greatest accomplishment in life was raising a family who loved him dearly.

Joe enjoyed all sports, especially hockey, and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. For many years he spent his early mornings at the golf course and was proud to achieve a hole in one at the age of 76. Joe enjoyed spending his winters in Florida where he made many close friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jean (Bradley); daughter Nicole (John) Whitty; son Rob (Sherri) and daughter-in-law Kim. He was a proud Papa to Marc, Ryan, Laura, Emma, Cullen and Maggie and Great-Papa to Emmett. He was preceded in death by his son Scott; his birth mother, Edith Crowdis; and his parents, Evelyn and Hugh Young.
